Blood Rage coming to Steam on May 27

And it’s discounted until then!

I know it’s been a long while since I’ve posted. Apologies for that.

What could bring me out of my blogging doldrums?

How about the news that the hit board game Blood Rage is coming for Steam on May 27?

I admit that I have never played Blood Rage on the table (Editor: You heathen!) but I’ve heard it’s a very cool game.

In Blood Rage (designed by Eric Lang and published on the table by Cool Mini or Not), each player controls their own Viking clan that will be raiding and pillaging across the board because Ragnarok has come! (who knew that the spell-checker would actually know how to spell Ragnarok?)

Let’s blurb the game itself because, as I said, I have no idea what I’m talking about in regards to this game (and I’m a little drunk posting this right now, the night before it actually posts)

“Most player strategies are guided by the cards drafted at the beginning of each of the three game rounds (or Ages). These “Gods’ Gifts” grant you numerous boons for your clan including: increased Viking strength and devious battle strategies, upgrades to your clan, or even the aid of legendary creatures from Norse mythology. They may also include various quests, from dominating specific provinces, to having lots of your Vikings sent to Valhalla. Most of these cards are aligned with one of the Norse gods, hinting at the kind of strategy they support. For example, Thor gives more glory for victory in battle, Heimdall grants you foresight and surprises, Tyr strengthens you in battle, while the trickster Loki actually rewards you for losing battles, or punishes the winner.”

Anyway, the digital version is coming to Steam, developed by Exozet and published by Asmodee Digital (ok, that does not bode well for how the asynchronous multiplayer will work).

Blood Rage 1

I have never played the game so I have no idea how it works, but apparently it’s one of Sam Healey’s favourite games, so there is that.

Will it be as opaque as the Scythe digital adaptation (also by Asmodee Digital) was? Or will it actually be relatively easy to pick up once you download it?

It’s available right now for pre-order on Steam with a release date of May 27. Apparently the 10% off that you receive if you pre-order ends on May 27, so if you’re a fan of the game, you might want to head over to Steam and get that pre-order in.

Blood rage 2

Right now, it’s on sale for $17.99 US ($23.39 CDN for us northerners who are suffering from the exchange rate).

Is this something you might pick up? Have you ever played it and can’t wait for a digital edition during this time of sheltering at home?

Let me know in the comments.

    • Yeah, that’s the potential hurdle. I don’t know how the async (if there is any) on Scythe works, but I’m not optimistic based on other games.

However, Potion Explosion works well (except no replay) and I think a couple of others do.

So it will be interesting to see how it is.
