Holiday Weekend Shots – Games & Updates

Hola!

Welcome back to the bar on a cozy Saturday night of Family Day weekend up here in Canada.

It’s been a rough week, with me being sick for most of it.

Which would explain the complete lack of new content here at Dude Central.

Sorry about that!

Somehow I caught a nasty cold that’s been knocking me for a loop all week. I worked on Monday, called in sick on Tuesday, worked until 2 pm on Wednesday and then just tried to get feeling better for our 5-day weekend (I took Thursday and Friday off as vacation).

Thankfully, it’s been a pretty restful vacation so far.

However, none of these days have I felt like actually thinking enough to produce any kind of written content whatsoever.

Even tonight isn’t the best night, though I did want to do an update (and also work toward my goal of not having any full weeks in 2024 without at least one post) and let you know what’s coming up on the blog.

And talking about a couple of new games that have arrived in the house!

Not to mention how full my online game play card is right now. Though I’m always open to more!

So have a seat, let me get you a libation of your choice, and let’s talk games.

I’ll turn down the Tori Amos cover version of Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit since it’s an abomination that I can’t believe found its way onto my jukebox.

Heads will roll…

Today, in our first time really out of the house (other than me going to the office on Wednesday) since I got sick (I’m not counting yesterday’s necessary Costco trip), we picked up from our US post box a game that I have been anxiously awaiting.

I was the Persians, as you can tell by their funny beards

Yes, Commands & Colors: Medieval is finally in the house!

Hopefully the next picture I take of this fabulous game will be on the table in my office as me and Bryan face off to see who will rule the Byzantine Empire (ok, the scenarios don’t go that deep, but still…).

That’s, of course, after I sticker the 200+ blocks (I may be exaggerating? But I don’t think so) on both sides, which will be a test of my steady hands.

Yeah, that will be a thing.

Anyway, that has arrived, and a few weeks ago, two other games were picked up from our US box but I haven’t even punched them yet because I was waiting to see how many Cube4Me trays I had left to use for them.

That’s right, The Plum Island Horror and Men of Iron V: Norman Conquests have been sitting here waiting for me to pay attention to them for a long time.

Will these get played any time soon?

Who knows???

But they are here, and they look gorgeous.

Coming up on the blog, I will get to the January “New to Me” games post that I’ve been putting off.

I have done all of the “admin” work (which means listing the games, putting the tags in, and getting the Twitter post ready) for it.

I just have 15 games to write about so I haven’t had the energy to do that this week.

It will get done before the end of February, though!

I refuse to let this be the first month in 7 years that I don’t get this post done on time.

Alongside that, there will probably be a storage solution post for at least one of the three games mentioned above, and I’m hoping to maybe get another review done. Maybe two!

I’m also trying to figure out some other gaming topics to talk about beyond the Friday Night Shots posts.

Though those will continue to be a mainstay of this blog, even if I have taken a couple of weeks off from them.

Before I end this brief update post, though, let’s talk about asynchronous online games.

Because I’m in a ton of them!

Theo, the Geeky Gamer Guy from Twitter (and Youtube fame, of course), tweeted this (I still say Tweeted…fuck you, Musk):

I responded that I’m currently in…20 Boardgame Arena games.

In addition to that, I’m playing an asynchronous game of Table Battles on Rally the Troops with my good friend Michal, as well as going through the first scenarios of The Last Hundred Yards with him on VASSAL!

And there are the 22 Ascension app games I have going, along with three Star Realms, two Carcossone games, two Roll for the Galaxy games, two Wingspan games, one Dominion game, one Neuroshima Hex game, one Viticulture game, two Roll Player games, one Dune: Imperium game, two Twilight Struggle: Red Sea games, and two Shards of Infinity games!

Oh, and I can’t forget the one game of Lorenzo il Magnifico that I recently started on Yucata.de.

Do I have a problem?

I think I might!

Anyway, I’m going to sign out because I’m still feeling a bit foggy.

But I hope your weekend has been good, and I can’t wait until I feel up to actually writing some more.

I hope you haven’t been holding your breath.

Let me know what you’ve been up to!

  1. Get well soon!

I am in awe about the number of games you have going on there! For me, the grand total stands at three right now: Our TS:RS game, a solo Vassal campaign of Downfall, and Votes for Women (on our living room table, started yesterday night late, going to finish today).

I hope your async games provide a bit of entertainment and comfort for you while you reconvalesce!
