Lacrimosa – Storage Solution from Folded Space

Folded Space - Lacrimosa - Trays

It’s been a while since I’ve put together a Folded Space insert (some of the best game inserts out there right now), but when I bought Lacrimosa direct from Devir Games when it went on their Black Friday sale for a steal, I knew I had to get this one.

There are a bunch of pieces and tiles and cards and tokens, all forming a mish-mash of bags. Along with the various player boards and main boards!

It was a mess.

Picking up the Folded Space insert, though, putting it back together was a breeze!

It fits the game box perfectly, though they didn’t quite account for the thickness of the rulebook.

The insert page says that there is no lid lift, and that is totally true.

If you leave out the rulebook.

Because the rulebook is thick enough that there’s just a bit of lid lift on it.

Not enough to worry about. I’m happy about it.

But it is there.

Sadly, this was probably the hardest insert to actually put together for me, and for just one reason.

Many of the trays have a divider in the middle.

Almost without fail, the gap in the sides where this divider is supposed to fit in was so tight that I had to force the divider in.

You can kind of see the frayed edges on the money tray where the divider fits in.

On the plus side, that meant I didn’t have to glue it!

That sucker is not moving.

That being said, the rest of the insert is of the usual Folded Space quality.

Which is excellent.

You start with the player piece trays as well as the Constanz cards and the money tray lining the bottom.

The memories tokens go on top of those pushed against the tile trays.

There’s a space-holder in the top left of the picture with the Lacrimosa cover image on it. The writing on the sides of it seemed upside down until I realized (and read more carefully) that it was a space-holder, not an actual tray.

The player piece trays hold the starting cards as well as all of the tokens for each player. It looks kind of haphazard, but since there will be stuff on top of them, nothing will bounce around.

They actually have coloured tabs that are glued into the bottom of the tray to keep the cards lifted (or put the pieces underneath, like I did for two of these).

You can see them under the cards in the above picture.

It’s actually quite impressive!

The tile trays fill up one end of the box, up to the lid. These hold every tile in the game very snugly.

In fact, in a couple of cases with the composer tiles, a little too snugly.

At least one of them is very tight and I’m not sure how easy it will be to remove them during play without a little bit of effort.

The nice and deep card tray in the forefront has an opening in the front, which makes taking all of the cards out very easy.

All of this then leaves a nice indented area to put all of the dual-layered player boards, folded up into neat squares.

With those in, everything’s a perfect height to put the main board in snugly as well.

It all fits beautifully!

Except the rulebook, as I mentioned.

Don’t even try to put all five rulebooks (five different languages) in there. Store them someplace else.

Along with the other language game summary tiles (though those would probably fit into one of the trays, why bother?).

All in all, this has to be the least of the Folded Space inserts I’ve put together, but that’s only relative to the others.

It’s still a fantastic insert.

Just one that’s harder to put together (and doesn’t look quite as good, considering the forcing you have to do on some trays) than all of the other ones I’ve used.

It will still be great to play the game with.

Which I still haven’t done!

Maybe this weekend.
