Mr. President – Storage Solution From Rails on Boards

Regular readers of this blog know that I’m a huge fan of the plastic, form-fitting counter trays for wargames offered by Rails on Boards (in their Cube4Me shop).

I’ve actually put together a few sets for them to sell on their site, but this one is a set that I bought from them.

Mr. President: The American Presidency 2001-2020 is a new solo game published by GMT Games that I have simply been mesmerized with recently.

In it, you have just been elected President of the United States and now you have to actually do your job!

Meanwhile, the world could be falling apart around you.

This is a game that I figured there was no way I was going to buy because the table space required was tremendous.

And there are a ton of counters!

I’ll talk more about this in a different post, but suffice to say…there’s a ton of stuff here.

And it needs to be organized unless you want to spend hours trying to set the game up (I’m not 100% sure that’s an exaggeration).

Let’s see what Cube4Me offers.

For a game with so much stuff, it’s actually a fairly light storage tray set!

You can order the set here.

The counter trays just consist of two of the 15mm 20-compartment trays, nested together so you only need one lid.

The first one has a bunch of the counters all sorted pretty well.

The second, bottom one, is actually fairly empty which surprised me when I saw that.

You can split things up to fill some of those empty trays, but I think it’s also organized to keep similar counters together.

The only counters that don’t fit into this tray are the Tension counters, because there are so many of them. They won’t really fit into the empty spots.

A mini-Euro card tray fits those nicely!

The Crisis cards fit into five of the 16mm 42 card trays. For once, the card trays aren’t overstuffed with cards!

They fit really nicely.

Here’s a closer look at the full top tray of counters, only half of it, though.

As you can see, this tray needs to be on top because it needs to have the lid on it.

The bottom tray can be nested without a lid, which is nice.

The box is huge, so it’s not really much of an issue to fit everything into it.

But between the boards, the many books that you have to consult, and the player aids, it is actually a pretty tight fit.

It works, though!

That’s the trays themselves, and here is the box with all of the cards.

This works really well.

I give this one a solid A+ as it fits everything very neatly with no scrunching up of cards or anything.

Give this one a try if you’ve bought this huge game and are trying hard to get things organized.

  1. OMG. “Mr. President” looks interesting, all right, but it also looks like setting it up would be challenging.

And I thought the original “Axis & Allies” was a bear to set up. (That’s one reason I didn’t play it often when I had other people to play with. It took like 20-25 minutes just to set up the Axis and Allied forces on the gameboard.
