Wingspan: Asia expansion coming to digital in Summer 2025

Even more exciting news for fans of the wonderful Wingspan app from Monster Couch!

Yes, the latest (and last so far) expansion to the game, Wingspan: Asia, will be coming to the digital platforms in the Summer of 2025.

Monster Couch made the announcement today and, given how great the other expansions have been implemented, I can only say that I can’t wait to see this!

I’ve played with the Asia cards once, a couple of years ago, and they do add some really interesting mechanics to the game.

First, it adds a “duet” mode if you want to play a different version of the game rather than just playing Wingspan as a 2-player game.

I haven’t tried that, so I’m not sure how well that works, but I enjoy the game 2-player anyway (other than the tendency for the food tray to stagnate).

Judging from the Monster Couch page about the expansion, it doesn’t look like they’re implementing the 6-7 player “flock mode” that the tabletop game has, but I can see how that might be difficult for the electronic version of it.

The page also says this:

“Players who are interested in playing with other birders – we have you covered! Wingspan: Asia Expansion enables cross-platform gaming with players from all over the world. No matter where you are, you can test your nature preserve-creating skills against players from around the world.”

I think that’s already in the game? Though the fact that you can’t create an account means that you can’t have the same username on different platforms is still annoying.

Maybe they mean that this will change?

I hope so!

The other expansions have added round-end bird powers and game-end bird powers, so they can’t really add powers like that.

But some of the birds do look interesting!

It seems that this expansion does add a bit more interaction with other players.

When I played it, it was mixed in with all of the other expansions’ birds, so I don’t remember too much detail.

But the birds do look interesting, and the Duel mode might be cool!

This expansion adds 90 new birds and, of course, some new end of round goals.

For the app, they’ll add some Asia-inspired new backgrounds as well!

Look for it this Summer and if you’re on Steam, put it on your wishlist now!

It doesn’t mention iOS and Android, so I’m not sure whether it will all be the same day, but it does mention X-Box and I can’t imagine that the consoles would be before mobile.

I could be wrong, though.
