AEG’s Destination Fun pack coming in June
I’m a big fan of the Trains deck-building game from Alderac Entertainment Group (AEG). It’s a very popular game, and I can definitely see why. I even have enjoyed (and currently own) Planes, though that one isn’t as popular. Finally, while I don’t own it (yet), I have loved playing Automobiles online at the Yucata site, and it will be in my collection one day.
Are you sensing a theme here?
Yes, all three games are from AEG and have nothing to do with that 1980s movie of the same name if you put them all together in the proper way.
Coming in June, there will be expansions out for all three games.
Christened the Destination Combo Fun Pack, it will include lots of great stuff if you are fans of all three games.
The contents look really neat.
In Trains: Coastal Tides, we’ll get more cards! Can’t have enough cards (though there’s no way in Hell I’m going to try and sleeve them all). Also, there will be three new maps. Two of them are specifically designed for 2-player games (much-needed as the base game maps don’t really work well with two players, though the Rising Sun expansion rectifies that somewhat) and then one designed for 2-4 players.
Planes: Round Trip includes two new boards, so players will have even more airports to explore and get frustrated with. New cards means new goals and new actions. And new airplanes! I’m not sure how that works, but I’m sure it will be explained.
Automobiles: Racing Season has three new tracks, including two that are designed for 2-player games as they are a bit tighter. Having seen the two tracks that come with the base game, I completely support that decision. It will also have new cards (of course) and some campaign rules as well.
What’s that? Is there a question in the back? Yes, I can hear you. What was that? Oh, what if you only have and like one of the games? Do you have to buy this $80 expansion that includes two games you won’t play?
That was the original plan, but apparently AEG heard the outcries (it may have been louder than the outcry Ben Kenobi felt when Alderaan was destroyed) and have now said they’ll sell them separately as well.
It remains to be seen whether it will be more worth it to buy this full pack if you want two of the expansions. If you only want one, however, you’ll be able to do that.
As it is, the $80 MSRP is a bit daunting, but when you realize you’re getting three expansions, that’s actually a really good deal.

If you don’t, well, AEG has listened to you.

I, for one, will be getting this pack eventually, as I do enjoy all three.
