June 2024 Gaming

I wasn’t really expecting much for gaming in June, mainly because of Father’s Day but also because I wasn’t sure how many lunchtime games we would get in.

There was a lot of stuff going on at work that was taking the place of lunches.

Little did I know that I didn’t really need to be concerned!

Father’s Day happened, even though there was only two of us (which actually turned out to be really good for me) and we did get a bunch of lunchtime gaming in.

Compared to May, I ended up getting one more total play (22 instead of 21) but of two fewer games (12 instead of 14).

Here’s how it all shook out.

And here that is in grid format (thanks to BG Stats for the amazing extracts!)

There were a few surprises in there, including seven new to me games out of twelve!

That’s a lot, and thus this post is going up before my “new to me” post is (and that one might be delayed, we’ll see).

Notice one of the games in that grid?

Yes, after many years (at least five), I finally got 1960: The Making of a President to the table again!

Thanks to a last-minute cancellation that left us with only two players on Father’s Day, but we came prepared just in case.

Nixon (me) faced off against Kennedy (not me) for the ultimate prize.

I am so happy this got played again, and it just reinforced my love for it.

There’s actually not a whole lot to talk about in this post since so many of the games played were new to me, but we did manage to finish the second modular expansion to Oh My Goods, which I talked briefly about in Friday’s “Friday Night Shots” post about modular expansions.

That was a lot of fun, and I’m glad that we played through the story in that one.

As I said on Friday, though, I think I need a break from Oh My Goods now. Great game, but I’m a bit tired of it.

One major surprise to me is that yesterday was my first 2024 play of Jump Drive, which I could have sworn I had played this year at some point.

It used to be our go-to “we’re waiting for people to show up, let’s pull this out” game.

The last play was in December, so yay us! We now have a 2024 play of it.

Of course there’s my monthly Combat Commander game, another win for me and that put me in the Top 10 for the ladder.

Patrick’s also in the Top 10.

Will I be playing Da Boss next month?

Probably not, but maybe!

The other game that wasn’t new to me this month was Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition, which is always a treat.

I’m not going to artificially lengthen this post just to keep you here, since I know you have things to do.

What did you play in June?

Save any new to you games for the next post, but any old classics that you managed to get to the table again?

Let me know in the comments.

  1. Congratulations on getting 1960 back to the table! I know how much you like it.

Last game I played on the table: MLEM (Knizia’s take on cats doing spaceflight – a clever little push-your-luck die rolling game).
