I Think This is an OSHA Violation – Final Girl – The Marrek Murders Review

I mean, with all of these death traps scattered around the warehouse, who do we sue?

Another in the Series 3 feature films for the wonderful Final Girl solo franchise, we once again have a film that adds a bunch of stuff to keep track of and modify the usual gameplay for the game.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that, as long as the fiddliness doesn’t get too bad.

(Don’t forget that you can click on a picture to blow it up)

The Marrek Murders patterns itself after the Saw movies (or at least the killer, anyway) and takes place in a warehouse that’s just brimming with traps.

That’s because the Tormentor just loves her traps!

It’s how she gets her jollies, since she’s actually pretty weak otherwise.

The Marrek Murders was designed by A.J. Porfirio with artwork by Agnieszka Dabrowiecka and was published by Van Ryder Games in 2025.

As I said, the Tormentor love her traps, so she has a lot of similarities to Jigsaw from the Saw films.

The Marrek Warehouse doesn’t seem to be from a horror movie that I know, but I don’t know a lot about horror movies so I’m probably missing it.

There’s a lot to like about this one, so let’s get started.

The Tormentor is a really weak villain as far as health goes, so it’s probably a good thing for her that you never interact with her until the Finale.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Tormentor

Instead, she just gets you or a bunch of other victims to fall into various traps that are around the location. You have to get yourself out of them or rescue the victims before the trap ends up killing them.

Since she also doesn’t do standard attack actions until the finale, you’ll notice that her bloodlust meter isn’t that large.

It only goes up when victims die in traps or if a Terror card says to do so.

Not to mention that it’s really annoying that two of the results of bloodlust increasing (as well as the “always happens” one after bloodlust is maxed) make you discard a random action card.

How do these traps work?

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Victim Trap

First, the game starts with one of the victims already caught in one, which means you’re jumping into things immediately.

The victim starts at the first phase of the trap and you can’t do anything until you get to their location.

When you do, you can execute all of the steps required to spring the trap and set them free.

The Infestation Box requires you to do two damage (essentially use an attack card and do two damage to the box, which means you can’t do it the first turn), then spend 3 Time to open it, and then successfully do a “Move” action that lets you move at least one space (though you don’t actually move, it just satisfies the requirement).

The Tormentor’s killer action is to have all traps advance one space.

For the Infestation Box, that means an increase in Horror.

Some Terror cards will also have the traps advance, and you will likely have 2-3 victims in traps at any one time, and possibly yourself as well!

When a victim trap reaches its conclusion, the victim dies, bloodlust goes up, and the Fail result happens (in this case, two more Horror).

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Final Girl trap

Final Girl traps, if you don’t break free of the trap, the game ends.

These traps can be devilish and especially bad when the victim is all the way across the map (or requires you to do 2 damage to it, which means you need a better attack card or a weapon).

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Victim Traps

Sometimes you just have to give up the victim for dead and cope with the progression effects (which are really bad when they’re Horror gains).

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Dark Powers

The Dark Powers all have to do with the traps, whether they make them harder, or deadlier, or just more aggravating.

Really, increasing Horror on top of the Fail effect is just overkill.

Endless Traps makes sure you always have a victim trapped (you might get lucky with the Terror cards and not have any for a few turns) and also is a good reminder that if you run out of traps (they are removed from the game once they succeed or fail), then you lose.

The Finale is where the Tormentor becomes pretty easy unless you’ve had a terrible time dealing with her previous machinations.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Finales

The easiest finale if you’re prepared in any way is No Escape.

Traps progress, but no new traps are sprung so you’ve hopefully dealt with them all (or the victims died) already, or shortly thereafter.

She doesn’t attack at all. Instead she runs around and closes all the exits (I would like to know how she does that in places like Camp Happy Trails, but whatever).

If she locks all of the exits, you lose!

But she only has 7 health and if you can get to her with a couple of attack cards and maybe a weapon, you’re golden (unless you roll like crap).

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Tormentor

Game Over, however, is brutal. Move, attack, move attack? Yikes!

Thankfully she doesn’t move very fast, even when bloodlust is maxed.

Which makes No Escape a lot easier as well.

And The Ultimate Trap puts you in a death trap immediately. The Tormentor can target you for attacks and you have to deal with the trap before you can do anything to her.

Not optimal.

The Terror cards can really make your day bad if you get a lot of Tormentor ones and fewer location ones.

That’s because the location ones usually have killer actions, which you ignore!

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Tormentor Terror Cards

But the Tormentor’s Terror cards usually involve getting you or a victim caught in yet another trap.

Other ones either advance the traps or affect victims (and possibly you) around the traps.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Tormentor Terror Cards

One actually gets you a step closer to resolving a trap! Though it costs one bloodlust to do it, so maybe it’s not worth it?

Hard to say.

The Tormentor is a really cool killer because the trap mechanism is such a great variation on how things are normally done.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Final Girl Traps

There’s no way to end the game before the finale, since you can’t damage her prior to that.

However, her low health makes that less of an issue as long as you have been managing ok with the victims and traps.

Having one finale where she literally cannot attack you, and where no new traps come out, also makes her a lot easier to deal with.

Maybe it’s my frustration at how many other killers seem impossible for me to kill (that’s my fault, not the killer’s) that is making me like her that much.

But it’s also just such a cool design.

You are a bit more dependent on luck than usual, though, because if the Terror deck is set up with a bunch of the Tormentor’s Terror cards, you will be dealing with traps right and left.

If you get lucky and there are fewer of them, it’s a lot more peaceful.

How is the Marrek Warehouse location?

Really interesting, actually, with a few cool twists in the item deck that can make the game really fun.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Marrek Warehouse

The warehouse has a bunch of open areas, including a huge one in the middle that connects to almost everywhere, but then there are the huge shelves taking up space (the red areas).

Here’s a bit of a close-up to really highlight those.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Marrek Warehouse closeup

The main thing about those is that you can’t just go up them like the victims can (are they monkeys? Or just really experienced warehouse workers?).

Having to spend movement to go around can be difficult.

However, you do have ways to deal with that.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Leap & Climb Action Cards

There is both a Climb and a Leap action card that you can take, though instead of buying them with Time, you instead have to discard a Walk or Sprint.

Climb will let you get up on one of those shelves, and you can get down off of them with no problem.

Leap will let you jump from one shelf to another.

You can even bring victims with you!

What I found funny is that if you fail to leap, you lose 2 health, must move a space, and the victims you are bringing with you move that one space too, having no problems clambering down off of the shelf and just wanting to see if you’re ok.

See? Monkeys!

The other main mechanism in the Marrek Warehouse is that the killer has taken control of the locks, blocking all exits.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Locked Exit

This happens until a Click Terror card comes out, which opens one of the three.

The Marrek Murders - Click Terror Cards

This doesn’t add time to your game, however, since you always have to draw another Terror card after this comes out.

But two of the three have new Events come out as well.

Some of the items that you can find in the warehouse are really cool, a few of which even take advantage of the shelves.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Items

The bowling ball is amazing if you can get up on a shelf, just requiring a discard and for the killer to be in a space adjacent to you in order to do 3 damage to them.

If you’re facing the Tormentor, that’s almost half her damage right there!

The chain saw is just brutal, but I never got a chance to use it. Three additional damage to your attack card?

Even a Furious Strike will cause 5 damage if you double-star it.

That’s amazing, though you have to do it as your last action. It will end the Action phase.

The 44 Magnum seems a bit under-powered, though the fact that you have to use it at range helps a bit. Only one additional damage seems weak, though.

And unlimited ammo! That’s a bonus.

The Power Drill gives you an additional damage in melee attacks, but also lets you discard it to unlock a door, which is nice.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Items

Other items can make your life easier as well.

The Odds & Ends lets you lay your own trap out! If an enemy enters the space, they take two damage.

The second time I defeated the Tormentor (the one that wasn’t “No Escape”), I had set two Odds & Ends traps in her path and also hit her with the Bowling Ball from on top of a shelf.

That all did 7 damage to her and her final health token was blank.

I defeated her without actually attacking her!

That was satisfying.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Items

Then there are things that will help everybody.

Like the plank, which will stretch from one shelf to another and make those spaces adjacent.

The Hard Hat could be the difference between winning or losing, which is helpful.

The setup cards are pretty standard, but when you’re facing the Tormentor here, they are also required for other reasons.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Setup cards

Whenever a Terror card effect makes reference to the Killer’s location (like “the nearest victim to the Killer panics” or something), you choose a random setup card (not the one you used for this scenario) and use the Killer’s location as a reference.

This is also how you place the Tormentor when the Finale hits, drawing a new setup card and placing her in the Killer space.

As for the Event cards, the three special victims cards are actually not too bad.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Special Victims

The Supervisor will lead victims rather than having everybody run their own way if there’s a panic, which can be helpful.

Zipp can unlock the doors for you, but you have to make sure he doesn’t die.

The Heroic Best Friend is a hit shield for you if you manage to keep them adjacent or following you.

All of these are great in their own way.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Events

Other Event cards are both good or bad.

“It Has Been 0 Days…” is not great because of how often victims end up on shelf spaces.

Now they die instead of clambering off of them.

Tumbling Boxes adds Terror when you move into four different spaces, but at least you can choose the spaces that have less of a chance of being in your way.

You Aren’t Going Anywhere is terrible because it relocks all the doors!

It also shuffles the Click cards back into the Terror deck, bringing out two more Event cards eventually.

I got this event when there was one card left in the Terror deck, which meant that all of the doors opened the next round (though it did delay the Finale by a turn because of that).

I love Smarter Than They Look, though!

If you can get victims to an exit space before it unlocks, you can save them without even being there when it finally does unlock.

That’s awesome.

Finally, let’s look at the Terror cards that aren’t “Click,” since you shuffle the Clicks into the deck after creating the 10-card deck.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Warehouse Terror Cards

Of course, since the Warehouse only comes with 8 Terror cards and 3 can’t be part of the initial deck, that means you are very likely to have a lot of Killer Terror cards, which in the Tormentor’s case is not always optimal.

Another way for victims on shelves to die!

The Let’s Open Some of These Boxes card is kind of a trap, since you have to roll a 5-6 and you have to spend the time before rolling.

Both times this card came out, I tried it once and failed.

It can be a game changer if you get lucky, but I’m never that lucky.

Overall, the Marrek Warehouse is a really great location that, while hard to move around in, is interesting in its own right.

The fact that you have to give up an Action card to take the Climb/Leap cards makes it even better, since it’s not a matter of hoarding Time but instead making sure you have the right card(s)

Being able to discard a Sprint to get both of them is amazing.

I love the locked exit mechanism, though the fact that there are only 5 other location Terror cards possibly in the deck does make it very Killer-centric.

It depends on the Killer whether that’s good or bad.

The items are really cool and the special victims are actually all useful, even if just situationally.

The warehouse is definitely a great location.

Finally, let’s look at the Final Girls that come with this film.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Finals Girls

They are pretty basic with basic saved victim rewards, though Cassie’s ability to get a Distraction card can make it so you don’t have to waste the time to actually get it.

It’s sad that they both only have one space to reduce Horror, though moving one space (especially in the Warehouse) can be very helpful.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Final Girls Ultimates

Their ultimate abilities, however, kick ass.

Mandy’s is amazing, especially if you don’t manage to find a weapon.

Any attack where you don’t have a weapon automatically does 3 damage? It would be nice (but probably way overpowered) if that also applied to Retaliate, but still…

Even Cassie’s is nice, though it’s very situational.

You have to be in the Killer’s space to use it, or manage somehow to get additional time so that you still have 6 time left to use it.

You won’t be buying many Action cards after that, unless you discard other cards for time, which is possible of course.

But doubling one attack, especially if it’s with a weapon, can be a game changer.

Critical Blow with a weapon? Eight or more damage?

That gets the Tormentor right there, and takes a big chunk out of other Killers.

Definitely top tier if you can get them flipped, though I’m more partial to Mandy (unless I’ve managed to snag a couple of weapons).

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - The Warehouse with Victims

This is another case where the Killer that comes with the film is more effective in the film’s location but may be a little less effective in other locations.

The fact that there are only 5 non-Click Terror cards in the warehouse means you are a lot more likely to get traps coming out with the Tormentor.

In other locations, where all 8 location Terror cards are potentially in the deck, you might get a lot fewer traps (or you might just get unlucky and have more anyway).

I look forward to trying the Tormentor in another location, and also another Killer in the Warehouse, where the Killer is actively stalking you from the beginning instead of just after the finale.

The Final Girls are very cool, maybe a bit situational or hard to trigger their ultimate abilities, but still very nice if you can manage it.

Mandy’s ability makes the inability to find a weapon not as heart-breaking as it can sometimes be.

I also have the Series 3 Ultimate Box, so I have miniatures for the Killer and both Final Girls.

Final Girl - The Marrek Murders - Miniatures

They’re very cool, though I don’t have the fine touch to actually paint them.

Finally, I have to mention the hilarious special weapon for Mandy, but I’ll put it in spoiler text:

The weapon is a chainsaw that, after spending 2 health to cut off your hand, you actually attach to your stump!

Brilliant design.

Anyway, if you can, check out The Marrek Murders as a really awesome Final Girl feature film.

The Killer is cool, the location is nice too, and the Final Girls are actually well done too.

A great combination!

  1. Love the Dirty Harry reference on the .44 Magnum card!
That said, I must agree with you that the card itself seems underpowered. That’s the most powerful handgun in the world we’re speaking of, and would blow the Tormentor’s head clean off… anyway, ironic that it has unlimited ammo in the game!
