July 2024 Gaming

15 - BG Stats - July 2024 - Grid

It’s hard going back to work after a month off.

It’s been a really tiring week, so much so that I will not be posting my “new to me” games post until at least the weekend.

But I did want to get my July gaming post out.

Being away from work, there were no lunchtime games at all, something that I figured would seriously hinder the stats.

Without a few plays on Boardgame Arena, it would have!

Let’s take a look at the month.

Many thanks to the wonderful BG Stats app for giving me access to these great statistics!

Here’s the list view.

And here they are in beautiful grid format!

A couple of minor things to note, but nothing really major (other than the new to me games, which I will elaborate on later).

First, I actually got a second play of Combat Commander in! That’s one thing where being on vacation helped, freeing my day to play a matinee game of the scenario that actually has ended up being the August ladder scenario (so I won’t do an After Action Report of it here, or at least not yet).

Secondly, a couple more plays of Garphill Games’ Ezra & Nehemiah, enough plays now that I could do my review of it.

Thirdly, four games that I’ve played before but not in 2024, adding to my “unique games played in 2024” total.

Granted, a couple of them were on BGA because I wanted to make sure July wasn’t too barren of games, but those are legit plays!

One highlight was Terraforming Mars, a game I haven’t played since November (and still in my Top 50).

Not only is it still a great game, but we played with the Prelude 2 expansion stuff!

No Turmoil cards, but we actually included Venus for once and played on one of the new maps.

What’s cool about this one is that the cards cover multiple expansions rather than being self-contained.

You can see the Prelude cards shown above, they both have to do with colonies!

Sadly, while I was happy to get to put two colonies out immediately, I never saw another card dealing with colonies so that head start didn’t amount to much.

I came in second to last.

But the game was so fun, even at 5 players and 3 hours!

All in all, even though there were only 12 games played (but a few multiple times), it was still a great month for gaming.

August brings us Dragonflight (last year’s write-up is here), so I know August will be a banner month for games in general as well as new to me games!

Stay tuned for the new to me games for July post, but also don’t hold your breath too much.

It will be a few days, even though there aren’t that many!

I’m just exhausted.

What did you play in July?

Let me know in the comments.
