Stronghold Games Announces Terraforming Mars Big Box & More!

(Edit: it appears that somebody took a post from Enoch Fryxelius on Facebook about liking the Pharmacy Union corporation and combined that with this announcement. So to be clear, there is no indication yet if there are any new corporations or cards (though how can you have new tiles to put on the board without cards to put them there?). I will definitely let you know if I hear anything else about new cards. I’ve noted that below for now)
I don’t usually do two posts in one day (another one is coming in less than an hour), but when you hear news this big, you have to jump on it.
Stronghold Games CEO Stephen Buonocore announced something big on the latest episode of the Boardgame Insider podcast: A new Terraforming Mars Big Box with lots of stuff is coming to Kickstarter on or around June 9!
As Buonocore says (around the 49:00 mark of the podcast), they don’t want to release just a big box of air.
So there’s going to be stuff in it.
Sadly, we don’t have pictures of stuff, so here’s just a list:
- Promo cards: Pharmacy Union (KS exclusive corporation) – (somebody mentioned this on BGG, so this particular one may not be true, see edit at the beginning of this post if you missed it)
- 12″ x 12″ x 8″ big box that will hold all current material.
3D tiles:
- 24 city tiles with 6 different designs
- 40 forest tiles with 5 different designs
- 9 oceans tiles
- All current special tiles
- 3 brand new tiles (for some of the promo cards?)
- All unique global parameters markers (no more plain white cubes)
- Card Dividers
- Box can also hold the promo 1st Player Rover
This sounds really exciting, though my friends who have the game have it so blinged out that I’m not sure if they will want the 3D tiles.
But maybe!
Anyway, nothing else was in the announcement than this, but rest assured I will be keeping my ears open for it.

Thanks for keeeping us updated. Enjoyed reading your post. Since I first heard news about TM on Boardgame Insider, I’ve been f5’ing the kickstarter page way too many times each hour. It’s nice to know that, even though I can’t wait, it’s due to a specific date now. I’m couting the minutes!

They really need to include new player boards or clear overlays with this. Maybe a stretch goal? I’ll be all over the comments on the Kickstarter with that suggestion once it goes live :).
New player boards? That was the Turmoil Kickstarter. I don’t think they’re going to be doing new player boards again.

New actual Mars Map boards would for me be a great addition, there have been 3 so far, i’m sure they could get another two more, one possibly being the North Polar Cap region..

I have a feeling new maps would probably fall under the question I asked in the Q&A about no more expansions, and how he said that there would not be any more expansions that add new mechanics.
I wouldn’t think a new board would have new mechanics, so maybe that could be in the future?

@Marc – I never said they wouldn’t have the player boards available as add-ons, much like all of the expansions in general. 🙂
I just said it wouldn’t be part of the campaign itself.
