A Gaming Life
(Edit: 1/15/22) – For those of you coming to this one, I have a 2022 update that is definitely more up to date than this one!
Look at what expansion goodness for Legendary Marvel that Upper Deck Entertainment announced yesterday!
I was a die-hard fan of the Legendary Marvel deck-building game and all of its expansions.
Unfortunately, when the Deadpool expansion hit and the cards were a bit warped, and then I tried to fit the cards in my 2 boxes and discovered that it was getting tighter and tighter, I kind of swore off the game.
It was just becoming too big.
I still followed the game and all the new expansions on Boardgame Geek, but I just wasn’t buying them anymore, or even playing the game.
It was getting too heavy to take to game days and I wasn’t playing games at home anymore.
Due to COVID, that has changed a little bit.
I bought the Champions expansion and have been really enjoying it so far.
I also have a number of expansions on order as well.
I rekindled my love for the game and have seen again just how fun the game is.
But this post is about 2021, and these expansions look very good.
For legal reasons, Upper Deck hasn’t been able to do anything Fantastic Four related since its initial expansion back in 2013, even including some characters that Marvel considers as part of the Fantastic Four no matter how minor.
So it’s nice to see that they will be making their return. It will be completely focused on the Fantastic Four because Upper Deck has indicated that they still can’t really “combine” the team with other Marvel characters.
However, that doesn’t mean we players won’t!
No idea what will be in any of these expansions (other than the team affiliations that seem to be indicated, and I’m curious to how Dr. Strange’s expansion will be Avengers-affiliated!) though it has been confirmed that the Guardians of the Galaxy expansion will have photos from the Guardians movies rather than original artwork.
That being said, it has also been confirmed that the expansion will contain all new material. It won’t be a reprint of the current Guardians of the Galaxy expansion.
I’m excited to see these expansions announced and can’t wait to see what will be in them.
I’m also very happy that I’ve found my interest in the game again. I’ve kind of missed it, but just couldn’t find it in me to pull the whole thing out again.
Since there are no photos of any of these expansions available yet, how about one of my new Champions expansion?
Are you a Legendary fan? What do you think of these expansion ideas?
Any heroes or villains you want to see in them?
Let me know in the comments.

I wish! I think they’re still aiming for July, but it’s hard to say whether they will make that.
